Fact Sheet

Who We Are:
The American Seafood Distributors Association (ASDA) is a non-profit organization of seafood importers, distributors, wholesaler, and retailers, representing more than 80 percent of the seafood sold in the U.S. market. ASDA member companies contribute substantially to the U.S. economy by providing direct and indirect employment to thousands of Americans each year.

What We Do:
ASDA works as a unified voice for free and fair trade, representing the interests of its US member companies and organizations through a range of activities and venues—including trade, business, and consumer media; elected and appointed government officials at the federal, state, and local levels; regulatory agencies; and opinion leaders to ensure that the water-to-table business that benefit from seafood imports can make their interests and position known and speak with one voice. While ASDA’s primary goal is to oppose tariffs, quotas, and other trade restrictions on seafood, the organization also works cooperatively with domestic seafood producers to find workable solutions to the challenges they face.

Our Position:
It is ASDA’s position that the seafood industry must work together to build demand for seafood, to make sure that restaurants and supermarkets can maintain a consistent supply of a range of seafood products in order to create value for everyone in the supply chain. ASDA believes that the only way American consumers can be assured of a steady supply of seafood is to continue to support those US businesses that import it, process it, distribute it, and sell it.

Global trade is a fact of life, and domestic industries that depend on seafood imports are an important contributor to the US economy.
